Gen. JeJe Odongo Unveils Transformative Projects for Orungo County.

-

ORUNGO COUNTY: The Member of Parliament-elect for Orungo County, Gen. JeJe Odongo, has unveiled transformative projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of the people in Orungo.

Gen. JeJe Odongo, who also serves as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, revealed these initiatives during his victory press conference held at his village home today.

According to Odongo, he will work closely with the community to provide iron sheets, improve livelihoods, promote value addition, and provide motorcycles.

He also plans to introduce high-value crops such as coffee, onions, tomatoes, cabbages, and cashew nuts.

Furthermore, Odongo pledged to promote intensive agriculture practices, including rabbit rearing, poultry keeping, goat rearing, and fish farming.

He believes that by implementing these projects, each family could earn between 5 million to 7 million annually through various programs planned for the next five years.

Hon. Odongo contested as an independent candidate and won the Orungo Parliamentary elections, securing 13,654 votes amongst five aspirants.

“This election was an acceptance by the people of Orungo of our message of hope for their future, which addresses their basic social and economic needs,” he stated.

His closest competitor, Teddy Anyuk Osire from NRM, managed to garner 9,223 votes. Other candidates in the race include: Fred Eseru from FDC, Nelson Esogu from NUP, and Stephen Opio from UPC.

“I want to thank the people of Orungo County for the confidence and love they showed me in this election. Was it not for their support, I wouldn’t have won against my nearest competitor by close to 6,000 votes,” Odongo expressed.

He also thanked the people of Orungo for facilitating peaceful elections, countering the anticipations of the East Kyoga police, which had ranked Orungo as one of the hotspots for the general elections.

As Gen. JeJe Odongo embarks on this ambitious journey to uplift the people of Orungo County, he emphasizes that true transformation can only be realized when community members are actively involved in the development process.

In the same event, Gen. Odongo conveyed his condolences upon the demise of Ngora District Woman Member of Parliament, Stella Isodo Apolot. She passed away at the age of 51 following a brief illness.

A statement from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), issued on Sunday, confirmed that Apolot passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Kampala Hospital after spending time in the Intensive Care Unit while awaiting surgery.

“I was very sad to learn yesterday that we have lost one of our colleagues, Stella Apolot Isodo. Gen. JeJe Odongo described the late as an active person, very friendly, and very forthcoming, who worked with everyone across political divides.

“We will miss her jolly gestures, and we will miss her commitment to service. We feel very sorry that she will not be with us in the twelfth parliament. May the Holy Mighty rest her soul in eternal peace,” he mourned.
