Soroti district: Leaders in Soroti district have been challenged to establish future projects that will benefit and enhance the livelihoods of people at the household level.
Peter Amecu, the councilor for Omodoi parish in Ocokcan sub-county, emphasized the importance of leaders focusing on community development by lobbying for projects that will directly benefit the people.
Amecu noted that many communities have failed to benefit from government programs due to a lack of direct projects targeting the youth.
He made these remarks during the campaign trail for Samuel Eninu in Ocokcan sub-county, where leaders from various political parties were in attendance.
Samuel Eninu, the candidate for Soroti county MP on an independent ticket, acknowledged that the core role of an MP is to monitor government programs and lobby for projects from partners to supplement government efforts and empower households.
David Agiti, the LC1 chairperson of Okulai village in Kamuda sub-county, said that many youth have engaged in criminal activities due to a lack of sensitization from leaders, which has affected family development.
Some residents attributed youth unemployment to a lack of participation in government programs aimed at economic empowerment.
